The Next President of the University of Richmond

crutcherThe board of trustees of the University of Richmond has named Ronald Andrew Crutcher as its tenth president. Dr. Crutcher will take office on July 1. He will also serve as a professor of music at the university.

The University of Richmond enrolls about 3,200 undergraduate and 900 graduate students. African Americans make up 7 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Crutcher currently is the co-chair of Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP). From 2004 to 2014, Dr. Crutcher was president of Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. Earlier, he was provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Miami University in Ohio.

Dr. Crutcher is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio. He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in music from Yale University. He was the first cellist to earn a doctorate of music arts degree from Yale.
