The New Dean of Equity and Inclusion at Wesleyan University

johnsonthorntonRenee Johnson-Thornton is the new dean of equity and inclusion at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She joined the staff at the university in 1998 as the associate director of the Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program.

During her career at Wesleyan, Dr. Johnson-Thornton has served as dean for diversity and student engagement, associate director of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program, assistant dean for academic resources, and assistant to the dean of the college.

Dr. Johnson-Thornton is a native of Jamaica and was raised in Brooklyn. She is a graduate of Binghamton University of the State University of New York System and holds a master’s degree from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island.
