Southern University Consolidates Top Two Executive Positions

SouthernULogoThe Southern University Board of Supervisors has announced that it is combining the position of system president with that of the chancellor’s post at the system’s main campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Southern University system also includes campuses in New Orleans and Shreveport. In the past, there were power struggles between the leader of the flagship campus and the system president who had worked on different floors in the same building.

The new structure will be in place on July 1, the day after the expiration of the contract of current system president, Ron Mason’s Jr. A similar consolidation of the two top positions recently took place in the Louisiana State University System.

The Southern University Board is currently conducting a nationwide search for one person to fill the combined position.
