Hampton University Joins the CNBC Summer Fellowship Program

Hampton_University_SealHampton University, the historically Black educational institution in Virginia, has joined New York University and the University of Missouri in the CNBC Summer Fellowship Program. The fellowship is designed to give students from underrepresented groups the opportunity to explore the world of business news and to learn the fundamental skills of business news journalism.

Students from Hampton will be awarded internships that will allow them to work on television programs on the CNBC network or to work with the CNBC digital team that delivers real-time financial information and news over CNBC.com and other networks.

pulleyBrett Pulley, dean of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism at Hampton University, stated that “these student fellows will gain invaluable real-life experience inside the newsroom of one of the world’s most powerful business news outlets.”

Pulley has been dean at Hampton since 2012. Previously, he worked at Bloomberg News, Forbes magazine, and The New York Times. He is the author of The Billion Dollar BET: Robert Johnson and the Inside Story of Black Entertainment Television (John Wiley & Sons, April 2004). Pulley is a graduate of Hampton University and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
