Christopher Howard Is Among Three Finalists for President of the University of Toledo

The University of Toledo in Ohio has announced three finalists for president of the university. All three candidates have been invited to campus for a series of interviews and public forums. The university enrolls more than 16,000 undergraduate students and about 4,500 graduate students. African Americans make up 14 percent of the undergraduate student body.

One of three finalists for president of the University of Toledo is an African American.

hs_howardChristopher B. Howard is president of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, one of the few all-male colleges in the United States. African Americans are 8 percent of the student body at Hampden-Sydney College.

Before becoming president of Hampden-Sydney College in 2009, Dr. Howard was vice president for leadership and strategic initiatives at the University of Oklahoma. A former helicopter pilot, Dr. Howard is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He holds an MBA from Harvard University and a doctorate from Oxford University in England.

Dr. Hightower was a professor of marketing at his alma mater, historically Black Florida A&M University, where he taught for over two decades. He also served the university as the Centennial Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor of Marketing and Facility Management.
