Alcorn State University Alumna Becomes the First Black Woman Orthodontist in Mississippi

sm-Chandras_other_picChandra Minor recently opened Smile Design Orthodontics in Pearl, Mississippi. She has satellite offices in Vicksburg and McComb. She is the first African American woman to practice orthodontics in the state of Mississippi.

“Throughout high school and college, I always desired to pursue a career within the healthcare industry,” Dr. Minor said. “Through observation of various healthcare professionals and my desire to help improve the self-esteem of others by enhancing their smiles, I decided to pursue a career in orthodontics.”

Dr. Minor is a 2008 graduate of Alcorn State University, where she majored in biology. She earned a doctorate of dental medicine in 2012 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She completed orthodontics training at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
