New Faculty Roles for Two African American Scholars

Keisa MathisKeisa W. Mathis was named an assistant professor in the department of integrative physiology at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. She was an assistant professor and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Mathis is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she majored in physics. She earned a master’s degree in applied physics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physiology at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center.

Lewis, LisaLisa Lewis, associate professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania was named a Penn Fellow. The Penn Fellows program provides leadership development training to select faculty members in the middle of their careers. Dr. Lewis’ research focuses on racial disparities in blood pressure control.

Dr. Lewis joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. She is a graduate of Syracuse University in New York. Dr. Lewis holds a master’s degree in nursing education from New York University and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Missouri.
