Mary E. Coleman was named interim vice president for finance and administration at Guttman Community College in New York City. She has served for 17 years as the vice president for finance and administration at Bronx Community College.
Coleman is a summa cum laude graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Nelson Townsend was appointed interim director of athletics at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. He served as athletics director at the university from 1986 to 1987 and again from 2005 to 2007.
Townsend was also the first African American to serve as athletic director at the University at Buffalo. He also served as athletics director at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Sandra Jowers was named director of the Humanities Division at the University of the District of Columbia Community College. Since 2006, she has been an assistant professor of history at the university.
Dr. Jowers holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a master’s degree in history, and a Ph.D. in U.S. history, all from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Tricia Penniecook was named vice president for academic administration at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. She is currently serving as dean of the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University in California. Her new appointment is effective on July 1.
Before becoming dean in 2010, Dr. Penniecook was associate dean for academic affairs and professor at the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University. Earlier, she was the coordinator of the School of Public Health at Universidad de Montemorelos in Mexico.
