Two African American Educators Honored by Indiana University

Indiana University School of Education Distinguished Alumni Award DinnerStanley Warren, the former dean of academic affairs and professor of education at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and Shaun R. Harper, associate professor in the Graduation School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Education at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Dr. Warren joined the DePauw University faculty in 1969, and served as director of Black studies from 1973 to 1979. He retired in 1992. Professor Warren holds Ed.S. and Ed.D  degrees from Indiana University. He is the author of several books including Black America Represented on United States Postage Stamps (1985) and Crispus Attucks High School: Hail to the Green, Hail to the Gold (1998).

harperDr. Harper, who also serves as executive director of the Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education at the University of Pennsylvania, earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in higher education at Indiana University. He is editor-in-chief of the Routledge book series on Race and Racism in Higher Education. Professor Harper is the author or editor of 11 books including Student Engagement in Higher Education: Theoretical Perspectives and Practical Approaches for Diverse Populations (Routledge, 2009, 2014) and Advancing Black Male Student Success From Preschool Through Ph.D. (Stylus Publishing, 2015).
