North Carolina Central University Executive to Chair National Board

davenportWalter Davenport, interim vice chancellor for administration and finance at North Carolina Central University in Durham, was elected chair of the board of directors of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. The board oversees 55 boards of accountancy and more than 800,000 certified public accountants. Davenport is the second African American to chair the board in its 100-year history.

Davenport joined the staff at North Carolina Central University earlier this year after retiring from his post as an audit partner at the accounting firm Cherry, Bekaert & Holland in Raleigh. He is past president of the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners and has served on the board of governors of the University of North Carolina.

Davenport is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta.
