Three African Americans Named to Key Administrative Posts in Higher Education

alexanderLeAnn Alexander was promoted to director of campus recreation at the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. She was assistant director of recreation and has served as interim director since April.

Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree in family studies and a master’s degree in counselor education from Mississippi State University in Starksville.

danielsDebra Daniels was appointed director of the new Women’s Enrollment Initiative at the University of Utah. Since 2003, she has been director of the Women’s Resource Center on campus.

Daniels is a graduate of Utah State University and holds a master of social work degree from the University of Utah.

Dion_LewisDion Lewis will become director of the Black Cultural Center at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania on December 1. He will also serve as dean of the junior class. Currently, Lewis is assistant dean in the Office of African American Affairs and director of the Luther P. Jackson Black Cultural Center at the University of Virginia.

Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in the social and philosophical foundations of education from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He is completing work on an educational doctorate at the University of Virginia.

In Memoriam: Roscoe Hightower Jr., 1966-2024

Dr. Hightower was a professor of marketing at his alma mater, historically Black Florida A&M University, where he taught for over two decades. He also served the university as the Centennial Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor of Marketing and Facility Management.
