Three African Americans in New Teaching Roles

warrenmilteerWarren E. Milteer Jr. was appointed an assistant professor of history at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. His research is on free people of color in North Carolina from the colonial period through the Civil War.

Dr. Milteer is a graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh. He holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

La Marr Jurelle BruceLa Marr Jurelle Bruce has joined the faculty of the department of American studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. He serves as assistant professor specializing in African American and African diasporic cultural production.

Dr. Bruce earned his bachelor’s degree in African American studies and English from Columbia University and his doctorate in African American studies and American studies from Yale University.

Theresa JohnsonTheresa A Johnson was named chair of the department of physician assistant studies at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. Previously she worked for the Veterans Administration in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and taught at Methodist University.

Johnson is a graduate of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She holds a master’s degree in health services administration from Barry University in Miami and is currently working on a doctorate in public health at Walden University.

Quenon Endowed Chair, and vice provost for graduate education at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
