In Memoriam: Jeffrey A. Smith, 1970-2014

JeffSmithJeffrey A. Smith, who recently had been appointed vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at Cheyney University in Pennsylvania, died on September 30 at his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He was 44 years old and had been at work at the university for only three weeks.

Prior to joining the staff at Cheyney University this fall, Dr. Smith served for five years as vice president of administration and student affairs at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Earlier in his career, Dr. Smith served as director of admissions at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and vice president for student affairs at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Dr. Smith was a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, where he majored in English. He held a master of divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta and a doctorate in ministry from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
