CUNY Initiative Seeks to Increase the Number of Blacks in Journalism

CUNY_logo3The Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York has established a new diversity initiative with the goal of increasing the number of underrepresented minority students who want to pursue a career in journalism.

The new initiative will include five, full-tuition scholarships to the Graduate School of Journalism. Also, an all-expenses paid summer internship program will be offered to 20 students from historically Black colleges and universities and other minority-serving institutions. The 20 students will spend two-months in New York serving as interns at media outlets in the city and will receive instruction from CUNY faculty. All travel and living expenses will be provided.

The diversity initiative is funded by a $1.2 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
