Notable Honors for Three Black Men With Ties to the Academic World

cagePatrick Cage, general counsel at Chicago State University in Illinois, was named the 2014 Top General Counsel for a university by First Chair, a professional development organization. Cage has been on the staff at Chicago State since 2009.

Cage is a graduate of Illinois State University, where he majored in psychology and criminal justice. He earned his law degree at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

osujiChinedum Osuji, associate professor of chemical and environmental engineering at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, was named as the winner of the 2015 Dillon Medal from the division of polymer physics of the American Physical Society. The award includes a cash prize and a bronze medallion.

Dr. Osuji is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He earned a Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Walter-MosleyWalter Mosley, the best-selling mystery author, has been chosen as the recipient of the Langston Hughes Medal from the City College of New York. The medal honors writers throughout the African American diaspora who have notable records of accomplishment in poetry, fiction, drama, biography, or critical essays. Mosley will receive the award on the campus of CCNY in November.

Mosley is probably best known for his Easy Rawlins mystery series, the latest of which is Rose Gold (Doubleday, 2014). He holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from City College.
