Historically Black Clark Atlanta University has filed a lawsuit against the city of Atlanta claiming that the university had rights to land recently bought by the city from Morris Brown College. According to the suit filed in the Superior Court of Fulton County, Clark Atlanta is said to have had an agreement with Morris Brown College that would give the university first chance to acquire the Morris Brown College property if it were no longer to be used for educational purposes. The land has become increasing valuable because it is adjacent to the location of the new home of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League, which is currently under construction.
Historically Black Morris Brown College lost its accreditation more than a decade ago. In 2012, it filed for bankruptcy. In June the sale of a large part of the Morris Brown campus to the city was approved by a federal bankruptcy court. The deal was valued at $14.6 million. The federal court said that it did not have jurisdiction to rule on Clark Atlanta’s claim to the land and that the university would have to pursue its interests in state court.
Unless I miss my guess, when Morris Brown joined the AUC it leased the land and some of the buildings its campus sits on from Atlanta University. The Morris Brown site was the original of campus of Atlanta University, and if that is the case then Clark Atlanta University has a valid claim, as they have ownership of the land.
I am a PROUD AUC product, and I hope that Morris Brown gets its house in order and comes back strong. Would have been nice if Dr. Dre had given that 30 million dollars to Morris Brown…

I WAS A FORMER Graduate of Clark Atlanta University . I understand that Morris Brown must be sold. Buying the land wont make any sense right now. According Clark Atlanta University President stated on channels news. The statement that we want All black students to this University. Not an educational type of word. The statement should have said. We welcome all students to this University. I’m happy to have been able to attend an Historic Black University. Update the Register office first. That building is vacant and under construction.
