Black Enrollments at State Universities in Mississippi

Flag_of_MississippiThe University of Mississippi reports that for the 20th year in a row enrollments are up across all of its campus. There are more than 23,000 students enrolled at the university this fall. The first-year class of 3,814 students is the largest in the history of any university in the state.

There are 3,285 African Americans enrolled at the University of Mississippi. They make up 14.2 percent of the total enrollments. Blacks make up 37.4 percent of the state’s population.

The Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, which is in fact a coeducational institution, reports that there are 2,697 students enrolled this fall, the most in a decade. Blacks make up 37 percent of the student body, a figure that is equal to the Black population of the state.

There are three historically Black universities in the state system: Alcorn State University, Jackson State University, and Mississippi Valley State University. According to the latest Department of Education figures, Blacks make up at least 89 percent of the undergraduate students at these three universities. The federal statistics show that Blacks are 21 percent of undergraduate student body at Mississippi State University and are 32 percent of all undergradautes at the University of Southern Mississippi.

  1. I recommend that all Blacks leave old miss. due to the increase in hate by whites at old miss.
    Miss. is not going to change its view of Blacks.

Officially launching for the fall 2024 semester, the Black Honors College will support students from all backgrounds who study Black history, life, and culture by providing them with a specialized curriculum and mentoring opportunities.
