New Adminstrative Posts in Higher Education for Four African Americans

JCU.Terry Mills HeadshotTerry L. Mills is the inaugural assistant provost for diversity and chief diversity officer at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. He was a professor of sociology and dean of research and sponsored programs at Morehouse College in Atlanta. He is the former associate dean for minority affairs at the University of Florida.

Dr. Mills is a graduate of Long Island University. He holds a master’s degree from California State University and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Southern California.

Alanka BrownAlanka Hayes Brown was appointed dean of career programs and associate vice president for learning at Frederick Community College in Maryland. She was the district director for academic readiness and academic outreach at Miami Dade College in Florida.

Dr. Brown is a graduate of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. She earned a master’s degree from Florida State University and a doctorate in higher education administration from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

horneDerek Horne was named director of intercollegiate athletics at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. He is the former director of athletics at Florida A&M University and served for 15 years on the athletics department staff at the University of Mississippi.

Horne is a 1987 graduate of the University of Mississippi.

endia-bealEndia Beal, was appointed interim director of the Diggs Gallery on the campus of Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. She has previously worked for the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, the Connecticut Center for Arts and Technology, and The New York Times Magazine.

Beal is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned a master of fine arts degree in photography from the Yale School of Art.
