New Administrative Posts for Nine African Americans in Higher Education

joyce_dixonJoyce A. Dixon was promoted to vice president of business and finance at Mississippi Valley State University. She has been serving in the post on an interim basis and previously was assistant vice president for business and finance.

Dixon is a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University, where she majored in business administration. She earned an MBA with a concentration in finance at Mississippi State University.

Yohuru Williams Politics ProfessorYohuru Williams was appointed associate vice president for academic affairs at Fairfield University in Connecticut. He is a professor of history at the university and director of the Black studies program. Dr. Williams is the author of Black Politics/White Power: Civil Rights, Black Power, and the Black Panthers in New Haven (Wiley-Blackwell, 2000).

Dr. Williams holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. He earned a Ph.D. in history at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

skohnSelina B. Kohn was promoted to director of athletics at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. She was associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator. Earlier, she was head coach for the college’s women’s volleyball and women’s basketball teams.

Kohn is a graduate of Albany State University in Georgia, where she majored in biology.

CU_milyonMilyon Trulove is the new vice president and dean of admission and financial aid at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Since 2008, he has been dean of admission and financial aid at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Trulove is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. He earned a master’s degree in higher education leadership at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.

hendricksDenisha L. Hendricks is the new director of athletics at Chicago State University in Illinois. She was the athletics director at Kentucky State University in Frankfort.

Dr. Hendricks is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in higher education administration from Auburn University in Alabama.

Waiters4webDestinee Waiters is the new associate vice president of compliance and general counsel at Texas Woman’s University in Denton. She was associate general counsel and acting general counsel for the Houston Community College System.

Waiters is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio. She earned her law degree at Texas Southern University in Houston.

MathwonHowardMathwon Howard was named associate vice president in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations at Emory University in Atlanta. He was director of major gifts at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Earlier in his career, Howard was assistant vice president for development at the Binghamton University Foundation.

Howard is a graduate of Adrian College in Michigan.

Lamont-HinsonLamont Hinson is the new assistant director of athletics and sports information director at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. For the past six years, he was sports information director at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hinson is a graduate of Fayetteville State University. He earned a master’s degree at Barry University in Miami, Florida.

GregoryCHarrisGregory Harris was appointed chief of police at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. He previously served in the same post from 2006 to 2010. Since 2010, he was director of law enforcement services at Johnson C. Smith University.

Harris is a graduate of St. Leo University in Florida. He earned a master of public administration degree from Kennesaw State University in Georgia.
