Xavier University of Louisiana Establishes a New Doctoral Program

xavierlaThe board of trustees of Xavier University of Louisiana has approved the establishment of a doctorate in educational leadership degree program. The new degree program will focus on urban education and turning around poor-performing schools.

haleRosalind Hale, professor of education at Xavier University, states that “what makes this degree program unique is its focus on leadership values that include social justice and inclusion of all the organization’s stakeholders. At Xavier, our educational programs are grounded in a conceptual framework that identifies six constructs – spirituality, diversity, professionalism, inquiry, competence and technology – that are passed on from the Division of Education’s experienced professional team to those who will lead effective schools in the future.”

D. in educational leadership curriculum will be infused with a rich mixture of leadership theories, best practices, and entrepreneurial turnaround skills,” said Dr. Renée Akbar, chair of the university’s Division of Education and Counseling. “What makes the program even more unique is its focus on leadership skills built on the foundation of social justice, collaborative relationships and advocacy.”

Xavier plans to enrolls its first students in the educational doctorate program in the fall of 2015.
