Ten African Americans in New University Administrative Positions

Clay, Rosetta-5bRosetta Clay was appointed associate vice chancellor for alumni affairs at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. She will also serve as executive director of the university’s alumni association. Clay was the director of alumni programs for the business school at the University of Maryland.

Clay is a graduate of Southern Illinois University. She earned a master’s degree in marketing management from Johns Hopkins University.

F.J. Talley_HeadshotF.J. Talley was named director of the DeSousa-Brent Scholars Program at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He is the former president of Olivet College in Michigan and Frederick Community College in Maryland.

Dr. Talley is a graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he majored in English. He holds a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University and a doctorate in higher education administration from Ohio University.

cokley_kKevin Cokley was appointed director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research & Analysis at the University of Texas at Austin. He joined the faculty of the university’s department of African and African Diaspora studies at the university in 2007.

Dr. Cokley holds a master’s degree in counselor education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He earned a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

orrJames Earl Orr Jr. is the new director of the undergraduate honor system at Virginia Tech. He was director of the student honor code office at Mississippi State University.

Dr. Orr is a graduate of University of Tennessee Martin and holds a master’s degree and a doctorate from Mississippi State University.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAE. Nathan Thomas III was appointed vice provost for diversity and equity at the University of Kansas, effective July 14. He was the founding director of Campus Diversity at what is now Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland.

Dr. Thomas holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Norfolk State University in Virginia. He earned a doctorate in ecological-community psychology from Michigan State University.

MarkHendersonMark D. Henderson was named chief information officer at the University of Illinois. He has been serving as interim vice president and chief information officer for information technology services at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. His appointment is effective on August 16.

Henderson is a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he majored in business administration with a concentration in information systems.

JimmyMiller_WebJimmy Miller has been named vice president of communications and external relations at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. Since 2005, Miller has served as president of the Glendower Group, Inc. and executive director of the Housing Authority of New Haven, Connecticut.

A native of Hobson City, Alabama, Miller received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Berea College in Kentucky. He earned a master’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin.

katrina-oliver-jdKatrina Oliver was appointed assistant director of the Office of Equity and Diversity at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She was an investigator for the Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education.

Oliver is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Georgia School of Law. She also holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

sandersStephanie Sanders was named associate director of diversity initiatives in the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She was assistant director of Diversity and Inclusion at Ohio University in Athens.

Dr. Sanders is a graduate of Ohio University. She holds a master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from the University of Central Arkansas and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Ohio University.

x-defaultShawn Felton was appointed director of undergraduate admissions at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He has been on the staff at the admissions office for the past 11 years and has been interim director since July 2013.

Felton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Virginia.
