Florida State Scholar to Develop Centralized Lab System for the University of Johannesburg

Claudius Mundoma, director of the Physical Biochemistry Facility for the Institute of Molecular Biophysics at Florida State University, has received a fellowship from the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program. The program recruits African-born scholars at U.S. and Canadian universities to help African educational institutions with research collaborations, curriculum development, and training initiatives.

Dr. Mundoma will travel to South Africa and work to develop a centralized laboratory system for researchers at the University of Johannesburg. He will help create training and management protocols for the university that hopefully can be adapted by other universities in South Africa.

Dr. Mundoma is a native of Zimbabwe. At Florida State, he provides training and research opportunities for both students and faculty. He also ensures that laboratory equipment is maintained, writes grant proposals for Florida State laboratories, and advises researchers on what resources are available to them.

A graduate of the University of Zimbabwe, Dr. Mundoma holds an MBA from Florida State University and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from West Virginia University.
