Clark Atlanta University President Announces His Intention to Retire in 2015

Carlton E. Brown, president of Clark Atlanta University, has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. Dr. Brown has served as president of Clark Atlanta since 2008. Earlier he was provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the university.

Dr. Brown’s career as an educator spans 43 years. Before coming to Clark Atlanta University in 2007, Dr. Brown was president of Savannah State University in Georgia for 10 years. Earlier in his career, he served in several roles at Hampton University, including dean of the School of Education and dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education. From 1979 to 1987, Dr. Brown served on the faculty of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

President Brown is a native of Macon, Georgia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English and an educational doctorate at the University of Massachusetts.
