Rutgers Professor Clement Price Named Official Historian of the City of Newark, New Jersey

PriceClement A. Price, the Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor of History at Rutgers University-Newark, was given the key to the city and named the official historian of the City of Newark. The post has been vacant since 2005 but was revived as the city prepares to celebrate the 350th anniversary of its founding in 2016.

In 2011, Dr. Price was appointed vice chair of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation by President Obama. He is the author of Freedom Not Far Distant: A Documentary History of Afro-Americans in New Jersey (New Jersey Historical Society, 1980).

Professor Price holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. He earned a Ph.D. at Rutgers University.
