Joseph Francisco Among the Finalists for Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska

The University of Nebraska at Lincoln has chosen four scholars as finalists for the position of dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. All four candidates will visit campus by March 7 for interviews and a series of public forums. One of the four finalists is an African American.

FranciscoJoseph S. Francisco is the William E. Moore Distinguished Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Science and Chemistry at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. From 2010 to 2013, he served as associate dean for research in the College of Science at Purdue. Dr. Francisco is the former president of the American Chemical Society and former head of the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.

Professor Francisco is a graduate of the University of Texas. He earned a Ph.D. in chemical physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the co-author of the textbook Chemical Kinetics and Dynamics (Prentice-Hall).

Update: On April 25, 2014, Dr. Francisco was selected as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska.
