Three African American Scholars Taking on New Assignments

kesha-williamsKesha Williams is the new director of digital marketing and communications at Clemson University in South Carolina. She was the web service project manager at Oberlin College in Ohio. At Clemson, Williams will oversee all social media operations, coordinating the efforts of 25 social media managers on campus.

Williams is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she majored in journalism. She holds a master’s degree in communications, culture, and technology from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

giles_geeHelen F. Giles-Gee, president of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, has joined the board of directors of the University City Science Center. The center is a hub for technology development and entrepreneurship in the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area. It is a business incubator that provides lab and office facilities and support services for entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.

Dr. Giles-Gee was named the 22nd president and the first woman president of the University of the Sciences in 2012. Previously, she was president of Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire. A native of Alabama, Dr. Giles-Gee earned a bachelor of arts in psychobiology, a master of science in science education, and a Ph.D. in measurement, evaluation, and techniques of experimental research from University of Pennsylvania. In addition, she holds a master’s degree in zoology from Rutgers University.

WhitlowWoodrow Whitlow Jr. was appointed executive-in-residence at the Washkewicz College of Engineering at Cleveland State University in Ohio. In August 2013, Dr. Whitlow retired from his post as associate administrator for mission support at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He began his career at NASA in 1979.

Dr. Whitlow earned a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Siwatu is a professor of educational psychology who has taught at Texas Tech University for nearly 20 years. Earlier this year, he was appointed interim associate dean for academic affairs.
