Elizabeth City State University to Open a New Veterans Center

ECSU_Gold_Blue_PrintElizabeth City State University in North Carolina has announced plans to open a veterans center on campus this spring. The center will be housed in a building on campus that was once a Rosenwald School. In the early part of the twentieth century, Rosenwald, who was president of Sears, Roebuck, financed the construction of more than 5,300 schools for Black children throughout the South.

James Dockery, interim director of the Division of Human Resources at the university, stated, “This will be a place where veterans can do their registration for classes and a place where they can meet and share experiences. We really want Elizabeth City to be a place that is truly veteran friendly.”

There are 30 employees of the university and several students who are veterans. A Coast Guard base is near the Elizabeth City State University campus.
