Center for Minority Serving Institutions Opens at the University of Pennsylvania

cmsi_logoThe Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania has announced the launch of the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions. The center has two main goals. First the center hopes to support and help sustain minority serving institutions throughout the United States. These institutions include historically Black colleges and universities, tribal college and universities, and Hispanic-serving institutions. The second part of the center’s mission is to create opportunities for researchers who are focused on minority-serving institutions.

The founding director of the center is Marybeth Gasman, a professor of higher education at the University of Pennsylvania. She says, “with more than 700 minority-serving institutions throughout the country enrolling roughly 25 percent of all students, the center wants to help them solve some of their tough issues and create resources for them to do so.”
