National Bar Association Names an Award to Honor a West Virginia University Administrator

grayKenneth D. Gray, vice president for student affairs at West Virginia University, was honored by the establishment of an award bearing his name by the National Bar Association. The Major General Kenneth D. Gray Excellence in Jurisprudence Award will recognize a leader, jurist, or practitioner who has exhibited distinctive and exemplary service to their community and or nation.

Gray is the first African American to have served as a Flag Officer Judge Advocate in any branch of the armed services. He retired in 1997 after a 30-year career in the military.

Gray is a graduate of West Virginia State College and the West Virginia University School of Law. He joined the administration at West Virginia University in 1997 and has served as vice president for student affairs for 16 years. Gray has announced that he will retire when the university is able to find his successor.
