Howard University Partners With the College of Southern Maryland

howardHoward University in Washington, D.C., has entered into a partnership agreement with the College of Southern Maryland that will allow students who successfully complete associate degree programs at the community college to transfer to Howard to complete a bachelor’s degree program. The College of Southern Maryland in La Plata enrolls about 9,200 students. African Americans make up about one quarter of the student body.

Under the terms of the agreement, College of Southern Maryland students who complete an associate of arts, associate of science, associate of science in engineering, or associate of arts in teaching and who have maintained a high grade point average, will be able to transfer into a Howard University bachelor’s degree program. Specific degree programs at Howard University may have other prerequisites that College of Southern Maryland students must meet in order to be admitted.

“The partnership is about access,” said Brad Gottfried, president of the College of Southern Maryland. “It is all about ensuring that our students have the opportunity to get the education they deserve.”
