Two Black Scholars in New Teaching Roles

truscottCristal C. Truscott was named interim chair of the department of music and theater in the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. She is an assistant professor in the department and serves as director of the theatre program. She previously taught in the drama and religious studies departments at Spelman College in Atlanta.

Dr. Truscott holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from New York University.

pate-muhammadMuhammad Pate, former minister of state for health of Nigeria, was named a visiting professor of the Global Health Institute at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Pate was named minister for health in 2011 and focused on increasing vaccinations and improving the health of women and children in Nigeria.

Dr. Pate received his medical training at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. He holds graduate degrees from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
