In Memoriam: Njoku Ekpe Awa, 1938-2013

awaNjoku Ekpe Awa, professor emeritus of education at Cornell University, died late last month in Ithaca, New York. He was 74 years old.

Professor Awa was born the son of a tribal chieftain in Nigeria. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degree at Michigan State University and a Ph.D. at Cornell University. Dr. Awa joined the faculty at Cornell in 1974. His research focused on communications in rural Africa.

Dr. Awa retired from teaching in 1995 and was granted emeritus status.
