Two African Americans Receive Top Honors

michellejohnson2Michelle Johnson, an associate professor of practice in multimedia journalism at Boston University, received the 2013 Journalism Educator of the Year award from the National Association of Black Journalists. Before joining the faculty at Boston University, she was an editor at the Boston Globe.

Professor Johnson is a graduate of the University of Maryland and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

quillianBenjamin F. Quillian, executive vice chancellor and chief financial officer for the California State University system, received the Distinguished Business Officer Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). The award is the highest individual honor bestowed by the organization.

Dr. Quillian joined the staff in the chancellor’s office at California State University in 2008. Previously, he was senior vice president for business and chief financial officer for the American Council on Education. Earlier he was chief financial officer at Fresno State University. Dr. Quillian holds a master’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and a Ph.D. in social relations in education from Washington University in St. Louis.

Quenon Endowed Chair, and vice provost for graduate education at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
