Tennessee State University Enters Partnership for Research in Data Sciences

Tennessee State University, the historically Black educational institution in Nashville, has announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro to develop strategic areas of research in data sciences. The agreement calls for collaborative research, workforce training and education, and joint efforts to secure funding for the new initiative.

The two universities will establish the Joint Institute for Data Sciences that will allow students and faculty researchers to have access to resources at each university.

dr-s-keith-hargroveThe leader of the project at Tennessee State will be S. Keith Hargrove, dean of the College of Engineering. He stated that the joint initiative allows “both institutions to combine their strengths in curricula and research in data analytics, sciences, and cyber-security, to prepare graduates for the growing workforce demand of systems thinkers and decision makers.”

Dr. Hargrove received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tennessee State University. He holds a master’s degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the University of Iowa.
