Three Black Scholars Named to New Teaching Positions

S_Carlyle_Brewster-croppedCarlyle C. Brewster was promoted from associate to full professor of entomology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. His research focuses on the use of technology in agriculture and natural resource management.

Dr. Brewster is a graduate of the University of the West Indies. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida.

allan-boesakAllan Boesak, a South African theologian who was active in the anti-apartheid movement, was appointed to the Desmond Tutu Chair of Global Peace, Justice and Reconciliation Studies, a joint position at the Christian Theological Seminary and Butler University, both in Indianapolis.

Dr. Boesak is a graduate of the University of Western Cape. He holds a doctorate in theology from the Protestant Theological University in Kampen in The Netherlands.

HYLTONKeith N. Hylton was named a William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor at Boston University. He is one of only 10 current faculty members at Boston University to hold these professorships, which are named after the university’s first president.

Professor Hylton joined the faculty of the Boston University School of Law in 1995 after teaching at the Northwestern University School of Law. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University. He holds a law degree from Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
