Charles Becton to Lead Elizabeth City State University

bectonCharles L. Becton, the former judge for the North Carolina Court of Appeals, will serve as interim chancellor of Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. Judge Becton will take over for Chancellor Willie Gilchrist who recently annouced that he will step down on June 30. Judge Becton is completing a 10-month assignment as interim chancellor of North Carolina Central University in Durham.

Becton is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., and the Duke University School of Law. He also holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Virginia.

He has taught at law schools of Duke University, North Carolina Central University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
