African American Scholar Honored by the Council for the Study of Community Colleges

LukeWood 2J. Luke Wood, an assistant professor of administration, rehabilitation, and postsecondary education at San Diego State University, was selected as the 2013 Barbara K. Townsend Emerging Scholar by the Council for the Study of Community Colleges. The award is given to an untenured scholar for an outstanding theoretical or applied research publication that contributes to the professional body of knowledge about community colleges.

Dr. Wood is the editor of the Journal of African American Males in Education. He is the coauthor of Leadership Theory and the Community College: Applying Theory to Practice (Stylus, 2013). He is the co-editor of Black Males in Postsecondary Education: Examining Their Experiences in Diverse Institutional Contexts (Information Age, 2012) and Black Men in College: Implications for HBCUs and Beyond (Routledge, 2012).

Dr. Wood holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Sacramento State University. He earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Arizona State University.
