Otha Burton Jr. to Lead the New Institute of Government at Jackson State University

OTHA-BURTONOtha Burton Jr., chair of the department of urban and regional planning at Jackson State University, was appointed executive director of the university’s new Institute of Government. The institute, which will be located in the new downtown campus, will provide leadership development, research, education, consulting, and training to help improve the performance of government and other public service organizations.

Dr. Burton is the former chief administrative officer for the city of Jackson. He joined the faculty at Jackson State in 2006 as an associate professor and associate dean in the university’s School of Policy and Planning.

Dr. Burton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Jackson State. He earned a Ph.D. in public administration at Mississippi State University.
