Jackson State University Proposes to Build a 50,000-Seat Domed Stadium

DomeJackson State University, the historically Black educational institution in Mississippi, has proposed building a 50,000-seat domed stadium on campus. The stadium would be the home for several Jackson State University athletic teams but would also host concerts and other events. The Chamber of Commerce, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the West Central Jackson Improvement District have also voiced support for the project.

“We don’t see it as a stadium just for Jackson State University,” said David Hoard, vice president for institutional advancement at Jackson State University. “We see it as an investment for the city and the region. The economic impact will be dramatic.”

The stadium has an estimated price tag of $200 million. The university is investigating several different funding scenarios.
