George Mason University Students Recreate Some of the Iconic Photographs of Black History

Tianna Wynn and Sha’Air Hawkins, seniors at George Mason University in Virginia, have finished a project recreating some of the iconic photographic images in African American history using student actors. The students found actors who resembled the historical figures and secured costumes and designed sets to recreate the original scenes.

Below is the recreated photograph of the Greensboro lunchcounter sit-in. The original photo is on the bottom left.

The two women are now working on a second project recreating historical pictures of women.

  1. What a fantastic idea to foster deeper understanding about the foresight and courage of these younG people. Hopefully, this idea can be repeated and may help rekindle an improved and deeper conversation about racism
