Xavier University Names Its First Provost

blanchardLoren Blanchard was named provost at m. When he takes office on July 1, he will be the first person in the newly created position of provost at the historically Black university.

For the past five years, Dr. Blanchard has been senior vice president for academic affairs at Xavier and he will continue to serve in that role. But as provost, he will become the ranking vice president who will coordinate the duties of the university’s other vice presidents.

Prior to coming to Xavier University, Dr. Blanchard was the chief academic officer for the University of Louisiana system in Baton Rouge and for the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans.

Dr. Blanchard is a graduate of Xavier University. He holds a master’s degree in educational administration from McNeese State University in St. Charles, Louisiana, and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Georgia.

  1. Kudos to Dr. Blanchard. He was a professor when I graduated from Xavier in 1996, and seventeen years later he is a university provost. The brother is on sharp cookie, and there is no doubt that he will be a university president before it is all said and done.
