Married Couple Awarded Ph.D.s on Same Day at the University of Lagos

LagosThe University of Lagos in Nigeria recently held its 50th convocation ceremony. A highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of doctoral degrees to Olusegun Samuel and Temitope Samuel. The two scholars were the first married couple to be awarded Ph.D.s on the same day at the university.

The couple met at the university in 2007 and were married in 2010. The couple has one child.

Olusegun earned his Ph.D. in marine ecology with a concentration in ecotoxicology. Temitope’s research focuses on dermatophytes, a group of fungi that causes skin diseases.
