Florida State University Honors Its Choral Director With a Stained-Glass Window

Unveiling ceremony for a stained glass window in Werkmeister Heritage MuseumFlorida State University honored its longtime music professor and choral director Andre J. Thomas by unveiling a stained glass window created in his honor in the university’s Heritage Museum. Thomas is the Owen F. Sellers Professor of Music, director of choral activities, and a professor of choral music education at the university.

Andre-ThomasProfessor Thomas also directs the Tallahassee Community Chorus (TCC). During his quarter-century tenure, the TCC has grown from 37 to 250 members. It has performed in Carnegie Hall and around the world. The window was donated by Ruth Pryor, a former researcher at Florida State and member of the TCC. Pryor stated, “I donated this window because I thought it was important for Dr. Thomas to be recognized for all his years of dedicated service to the university and the Tallahassee Community Chorus. I think Dr. Thomas is a marvelous man. All of his students and the members of the choruses that he directs love him.”

Professor Thomas is a graduate of Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. He earned a master’s degree at Northwestern University and a doctorate in music from the University of Illinois.
