Columbia University Opens Its First Global Center in Africa

columbiaColumbia University in New York City has opened a Global Center in Nairobi, Kenya. The center is located in a 14,000-square-foot building in Nairobi. The building has videoconference facilities and a library. The center employes 35 people.

Projects at the center include the Millennium Villages Project, which helps rural villages lift themselves out of poverty, the Drylands Initiative that works to help drought-stricken areas, and the Africa Soil Information Services.

This installation is the university’s first Global Center in Africa. Other Columbia University Global Centers are located in Amman, Jordan, Beijing, Istanbul, Mumbai, Paris, Santiago, and Rio de Janeiro.

The new center will promote and facilitate international collaborations, research projects, academic programs and study abroad opportunities.
