University of Chicago Gives Out Its Diversity Leadership Awards

The University of Chicago has honored two African Americans with Diversity Leadership Awards.

bennett-michaelMichael Bennett, associate professor of sociology at DePaul University, received the award in the alumni category. Dr. Bennett is the former director of DePaul’s Monsignor John J. Egan Urban Center and former president of the Neighborhood Institute.

Professor Bennett holds a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University in Ohio, and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.

ransomKim Ransom, director of the university’s Collegiate Scholars Program won the award in the staff category. Ransom founded the university’s Collegiate Scholars Program in 2003. In this role she has helped hundreds of students at Chicago public high schools gain admission to four-year colleges. The program operates summer preparatory classes and offers advice on which courses to take in high school, college choice, financial aid, and other life lessons.

Ransom is a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, and holds a master’s degree in English literature from DePaul University.
