Three Black Scholars Taking on New Roles in Higher Education

mcfaddenCalvin J. McFadden, Sr. was appointed Dean of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Massachusetts. He has served on the faculties of Florida A & M  University and Florida State University as well as American International College and Springfield College.

Dr. McFadden is an honors graduate of Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He holds a master of divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center/Gammon Seminary and a doctorate in family and child sciences from Florida State University.

Chinyere Ukabiala was named ombudsperson at Grinnell College in Iowa. She will be the first person in this new position and will assume her new duties on February 1. She is an attorney in Des Moines, Iowa, specializing in family law.

Ukabiala holds law degrees from Buckingham University in England and Drake University in Iowa.

LawtonBilly C. Lawton was named director of the agriculture and natural resources division of the Cooperative Extension Program at Prairie View A&M University. He has been with the program since 2008.

Lawton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
