Large Increase in Black Enrollments at West Virginia University

West Virginia University in Morgantown has a record number of students on campus this fall. There are just short of 30,000 students on campus. This year’s freshman class ties the all-time record of 5,135 students.

There are 1,180 African American students on campus, an increase of 101 students, or 9.4 percent from a year ago. African Americans make up about 4 percent of the student body. Blacks are 3.5 percent of the West Virginia population.

Jim Clements, president of West Virginia University, stated, “We are pleased to building a more diverse student body, as that enhances everything we do as a university.”
