Three African Americans Taking on New Posts in Higher Education

LaTanya M. Junior is the new executive director for communications at Jackson State University in Mississippi. She was the chief marketing officer and communication director at the American Association of Advertising Agencies Center for Excellence at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Junior is the author of Creating Your Own Marketing Blueprint in Nine Simple Steps and Thumbology: Defining Your Desired Direction Step by Step.

Cornelius K. Gilbert was appointed visiting assistant professor of counseling, adult, and higher education at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. He was an academic adviser at the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. Gilbert holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

LaVar J. Charleston was named assistant director and senior research associate at the Wisconsin Equity and Inclusion Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He has been and will continue to serve as an adjunct professor in the department of educational leadership and policy analysis at the university.

Dr. Charleston is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He holds master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
