President of Alabama A&M University Receives Major Vote of Confidence

The executive committee of the board of trustees of Alabama A&M University in Huntsville had agreed to extend the contract of university president Andrew Hugine Jr. through July 15, 2017. Dr. Hugine was inaugurated as president of the university in 2009.

Board President Pro Tem Odysseus Lanier stated, “We want to show our students, their parents, faculty and staff, the alumni, and the corporate community that we are moving this institution forward with stable and consistent leadership.”

“I want to thank the Board of Trustees for their continued confidence in me,” stated Dr. Hugine following the decision to extend his contract. “With this contract extension, we can now better plan our strategies for future growth and development, as well as refocus and intensify our work of addressing the challenges of financial resources, capital improvement, and advocacy facing the university.”

Dr. Hugine is a graduate of South Carolina State University. He earned a doctorate from Michigan State University.
