New Deans of Education at Two Historically Black Universities

Mwalimu J. Shujaa is the new dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Southern University of New Orleans. He was the interim dean of the graduate school, executive vice chancellor, provost, and professor of education at Southern University in Baton Rouge. Dr. Shujaa has also taught at Medgar Ever College in New York, Fort Valley State University in Georgia, the University at Buffalo, and Rutgers University. He is the co-editor of the forthcoming Encyclopedia of African Cultural Heritage in North America.

Dr. Shujaa is a graduate of Pittsburg State University in Kansas. He holds a master’s degree from the College of New Jersey and an educational doctorate from Rutgers University.

Frederick K. Asinor was appointed dean of the College of Education, Health, and Public Policy at Delaware State University. Since November 2011, he has been executive director of the Ocular Melanoma Foundation in Washington, D.C. He previously served as executive vice president of the One World Foundation in Burtonsville, Maryland, and as president of the MASA Healthcare in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Dr. Asinor is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta. He earned a master’s degree at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and an educational doctorate from Atlanta University. He did postdoctoral work at the University of Alabama and Johns Hopkins University.
